Maï T Segura is born in Bilbao. She grew up in Strasbourg, where she studied photography with Antonio Fimia and Pascal Holtzer and furthermore with Sepp Berlinger in Wien. In 1978 she created a performance about Five Female Personalities for an instalation piece about advertising by Michel Dupuy that took place in L´Atelier Theatre, Strasbourg. From 1979 until 1982 she did a Living Sculpture project with Fabrice Jeaneret, where she basically decided that her Art was to produce no Art whatsoever; in the same time Maï T considered the project a work on gender to question who is female? who is male? In Autumn 1982 Maï T moved to Paris where she wrote, co-directed and acted in experimental
theaterproductions that basically continue the autobiographical style of her first work
5 Female Personalities
. For example La Kleptomane, written, directed and performed by Maï T and Francoise Grandcolin in the Bastille Theatre, París and in the Theatre of Poitier. Nous sommes partis longtemps en arrière, written and directed by F. Grandcolin and performed by Maï T in the Jaqueline Boulanger Gallery, Paris. In Porcherie, written by P.Pasolini and directed by Philippe Poulain, Maï T played the philosopher Spinoza, a role that suited and pleased her enormously. The play was performed at the Theatre Festival of Alès and afterwards in a painters studio in Paris. Ana le mur devant derriere was based on Maï Ts idea to work with the elements ´shoes´ and ´sleep´, written and directed by Jean Hurpy and performed by Maï T in a delapitated apartment overlooking the Champs Elysee in París as well as in the Theatre of Caen. Maï T performed also in Nicomède, written by Racine and directed by Vicent Vernillat and in La Ville, written by Claudel and directed by Jacques Sobel in the Theatre of Genevilier in París. And just to contradict herself she regularily continued her Living Sculpture project, this time with Jean Baptiste Nico. In 1988 the circle closed: Maï T went back to her first love Photography. Her performance and her photography turned into One activity.
