Andy :
Your new paintings, the ´Sketch from Spain´-Series, are cinematic-
a
return to Cinemascope. They touch this Spanish-European moment in a complete
and generous way. What would be Your preferred place to show these beautiful
and poetic works ?
Harry:
Ideally I see them as a series of stamps- I have noticed that the
only image on Spanish stamps, since the Euro became real, is the king
of
Spain. In reality I like the idea of showing them in the Tapies Foundation
(but I´m not sure that there would be enough space for them ); I
like the
spirit of Tapies and I like his Foundation! Otherwise, the MACBA is just
fine- with all it´s white walls (although it¹s a bit institutional)
or maybe
I could show them on the Wall of China !...I hope that I can show them
at
all , actually,- I think, I need an agent!

Harry :
During Your visit we have talked about many chemical materials. I am
particulary interested in your thoughts about Chlorine-Cl and Aluminium-Al.
Why do we use them? Why are they a problem? How could we end this marriage
of CONVENIENCE ???

Andy :
When isolated as pure substances Cl and Al are antipathetic to life.
In the past 150 years humans have isolated and turned them (Al and Cl)
into
Everyday Elements. While Chlorine is found as an ion in many life forms,
it
is acutley toxic to life in its pure form and many of the compounds science
and industry have ³created² are equally dangerous. Aluminum
is not useful to
life in any form. Most of the thousands of products we use that are made
from aluminum are not toxic, but some are and it is foolish to ignore
the
fact that the evolution of life has excluded this element in the form
of an
ion. We use Cl and Al because they "improve the quality of our lives"
in
terms we consider affordable. The list of products which use Cl and Al
is
massive. (see FOOTNOTE). But as Science and Industry
revealed these potential
uses, they never considered the impact beyond the utility of the specific
invention. We are now more "evolved" in our understanding and
have become
burdened as a global community with the consequences of these initial
enthusiasms. Only by direct intervention of governments in the business
of
Chlorine and Aluminum can we hope to close these "Pandora's Boxes*.
